Mérula wine estate

Mérula Wines

The story of Mérula Wines began about 10 years ago. As a young boy, winemaker Marino Moenaert inherited a passion for grapes from his grandfather, who cultivated table grapes in his greenhouse.

A background in horticulture and many visits to both local and international wine producers enabled Marino to plant his first vines next to his home in Oostkamp.

With the planting of the vineyard in Sint-Kruis, Mérula also established a presence in both Bruges and Damme territory. At the De Blauwe Zaal site, approximately 12,000 vines for sparkling wine were planted in 2020. Additional vines were planted there in 2021 and 2022.

In the distant past, wine was already cultivated in this area. Thanks to the presence of iron sandstone in the soil, the land is ideally suited for grapevines.

Groups: guided tour with wine tasting

A visit to the vineyard is highly recommended for anyone interested in Belgian winemaking. Just a short distance from Bruges, in Damme, you will be warmly welcomed and taken into the story of Mérula.

Each guided tour starts with a walk through the vineyards, led by a passionate guide. Afterwards, you will get an insight into the entire production process in the winery. The visit concludes in the modern wine house with a tasting of three Mérula wines in a relaxed atmosphere.
